Paper 3: Research Essay

Looking back, this paper took the longest to complete. I believe the minimum amount of pages required was 7 which was the first time I’ve ever written. There were also a lot of things to do as well for this paper. I would have to use at least five rhetorical devices in my paper, add a separate note explaining all of the intentional rhetorical choices I made in my essay and I would also have to include ethos/pathos/logos while using a formal tone and use evidence from six sources that I was required to gather. I found it easier to not worry about implementing the rhetorical devices until I was done with the paper first.

Just like the first paper, I used a google doc to help structure out how I should write my paper. For example, page 1 would be the introduction and what is stop motion animation, page 2 would be who first created it and how it came to be, page 3 would be the steps to create stop motion animation, page 4 would be different types of stop motion animation, pages 5 and 6 would be what can it be used for (such as conveying a story, helping people gain a better understanding of a topic and to entertain viewers) and finally page 7 would be the conclusion. Once I completed this structure, I then proceeded to make my first rough draft. Due to some personal situations, I was unable to complete the first draft but I was able to complete the second draft on time. With the second draft, I got some decent feedback and I realized that I needed to write more because it was still under the 7 page criteria. After the second draft, I was able to complete the requirements for this paper and submit it on time.

From this paper, I learned how to use citation conventions, locate sources in the library’s databases/archives and on the Internet while being able to check their credibility, accuracy, timelines and bias. Checking their credibility and accuracy was the most important thing for this paper because if my information isn’t correct, then this inquiry paper is not worth reading as I’m giving false information to my audience.
